Middlesbrough Mayor ,Andy Preston, comes to Discovery!

Andy Preston spent a day at our brand new Discovery Special Academy building. He got a tour of the new facilities, spent time with the children and got to know the amazing staff. Discovery is the first free school for children with special needs to be opened in Middlesbrough. We hope that the work we do at Discovery inspires change and is only the beginning of doors opening and opportunities arising for SEN children in Middlesbrough.

SEND and Inclusion is a priority across all Tees Valley Education, and having a academy and specialised building dedicated to this was something hat has been in the works for a long time This was a 7 year long project, with endless research to ensure that we provide state of the art care , education and facilities. Now that it is finally up an running, filled with all of our children and staff, we love nothing more than to show everyone what we have to offer and the life changing impact it has on children with special and complex needs. Take a look at what Andy Preston had to say over on his Twitter:

Andy got stuck in, playing with the children in their new, fully secure courtyard with a range of equipment for the children too use to let off some steam whilst simultaneously developing fine motor skills. He also got a first hand look at how therapy dogs can be a great therapy option for some children – just one of the therapy options on offer at Discovery!
